A heartfelt welcome!
With the Hotel Between The Lakes, we have striven to create an ideal starting point and accommodation for cyclists, hikers and nature-loving holidaymakers. We want our guests to feel that they and all their wishes are in the best of hands. There are many varied and beautiful ways to plan your day as a vacationer at the Müritz. Start with a breakfast, maybe on the terrace, and round off the day with a cool drink in the evening.
We look forward – from the heart – to welcoming you as our guest.
All the very best, from your very own

HOTEL HISTORY
The former boarding house “Am Mühlenberg 4” has an eventful history. The first owner was the teacher Gustav Tiebel. The boarding house of the former education center, which was built in 1886, was named after F.W. Kruse.
The house is on the edge of a spacious park that was designed in the 19th century based on plans of the Schwerin Horticultural Director Klett. The former school building “Am Mühlenberg 2”, which is now used as a police building, was also part of the pedagogy. The teacher Gustav Tiebel sold it to Dr. phil. Heinrich Michaelis and Gustav Stegmann in 1910. In the same year the senior teacher and institutional head of the pedagogy, Dr. phil. Heinrich Michaelis (1876-1924) became sole owner of the one-time boarding house.
On June 10th, 1920 the property was sold to the town of Waren (Müritz) for 40,000 Reichmarks and handed over to the central governmental Reich Treasury without, however, relinquishing its title for the city. The house was used as a tax office from 1920. The boarding house had became an office building. Government Councillor Dr. Maus and the senior tax inspectors Carl Rust and Johannes Tietz, along with 40 other officials, “took care” of the tax revenue for the state of Mecklenburg from 1930 onwards.
After the Second World War, Russian forces moved in. Later, the tax office again had its seat here and, for a few years, the district leadership of the state party, the SED, too. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the owners changed. When we bought the building, it had been empty since 1995.
In 2007 we made our first plans to revive the building’s true destiny. After the purchase became official, we received the building permit in October 2008 and began the demolition work and clearing of the building. Many “leftovers” from the East German state came out in the wash, such as flags, dial phones, old dishes and maps.
Due to the weather in January and February 2009 there was an unexpected construction stop, but that was just a temporary setback. Our hotel with 30 rooms, an elevator, a new staircase and a dining room was completed at an explosive speed from mid-March until, on 19 June 2009, we were able to open!
On June 19, 2019 we celebrated our 10th hotel anniversary and we are still enormously happy that you want to spend your most important time of the year, your holiday, with us.
Wishing you the happiest times, your team from the Hotel Between The Lakes
